Finished Deeping Stream River Dig

  • Minecraft Middle Earth is a Minecraft community that recreates the world described by JRR Tolkien and his writings. Everyone can participate in organized events in which we collaborate to create major landmarks, terrain, caves, castles, towns, farms and more.

To get started, visit The New Player Guide
  • This weekend 20-21 April the website will be unavailable for a few hours for a scheduled upgrade and maintenance. Estimated time that the site will be unavailable will be around 3 hours.

  • This community does not generate revenue and relies on its members and financial contributors to keep it running.

For a complete month, we would need around 235 USD for a break-even situation.

Deeping Stream River Dig!
Project Leader: DSESGH

Lore-inaccurate Deeping-stream = another river dig! The Deeping-stream
just stopped after the dike, and didn't follow the correct path in the first
place, so here it is! The Deeping Stream River Dig!
Lore Reference
A wall, too, the men of old had made from the Hornburg to the southern cliff, barring the entrance to the gorge. Beneath it by a wide culvert the Deeping-stream passed out. About the feet of the Hornrock it wound, and flowed then in a gully through the midst of a wide green gore, sloping gently down from Helm's Gate to Helm's Dike. Thence it fell into the Deeping-coomb and out into the Westfold Vale.
The Two Towers, Book 3, Ch. 7, Helm's Deep

Plan
1. Plan the river (
Finished)
2. Fix the Hornrock (
Finished)
3.
Dig the river! (Finished)
4. Detail with voxel (
Finished)
5. Splatter materials (
Finished)
6. Build sources (

To-Do List

1. Plan the river (
Finished)
2. Fix the Hornrock (
Finished)
3. Dig the river (
Finished)

  • Divide into sections
  • Mark the exact outline, one section at a time
  • Run digging jobs for each section
    • 15 blocks deep
  • Dig tributaries the same way
4. Detail the river with voxel (Finished)
  • Make the river bottom
  • Fix terrain to make the river fit in (fix hills and such)
5. Splatter materials (Finished)
  • Splatter materials with voxel

I was informed by @SugarKoala that some people were concerned about the river running through the hill near Helm's Deep. There is no need to be worried, because all that stuff will be fixed once the river is dug.

hey @DSESGH where is the source because the source from near the caves is not large enough to support the large river we dug...

There are 3 tributaries along the river, which will each have one or two sources. Before the first tributary, the river will stay around as wide and deep as it was before.

I am aware of the geography, but even with three tributaries in the short space between the wall and the glittering caves, "the stream" is deeper than the Anduin in most places....

I think it looks fine. The river will get a lot smaller after voxelling, that has always been the case.

It won't end up that deep; probably 8 blocks deep at the most, which would be at the end. It was only dug that deep because there's a section in the middle that's at about y15 or so, so it needed to be dug to y8, and of course, you can't raise the digging depth.

Seeing your next question, the low part will be raised with voxel, so the river will not have to flow upwards;)
