During the next few weeks the server can be unresponsive or appear offline at times while I'm working on backing up all the data.
During these next few days I will start the upgrade of the current server used for the Build server. The website will continue to work, but downtime can not be avoided during the migration from the old server to the new one.
Even though the ip will most likely change to connect to the build server, you should not take any extra steps as the domain build.mcmiddleearth.com will eventually bring you to this new server.
I will keep you posted of the evolutions
You all, especially the younger ones among you, know the ever present stereotype of the lazy gamer doing "nothing" all day long. Many of you know the situation that five minutes after you turned on your PC (or whatever device it shall be) you already get blamed by someone to be doing it for hours already. I can't straightly deny the stereotype as I guess there are many out there on which it may fit, but for your all easing I can tell you that with chosing MCME as one of your games to play you definitely made no bad choice in terms of whether your virtual activities are now useless or not. Once you get a bit into it there is so much knowledge and brainwork that flows into such a project that you can indeed profit from it, therefore, even if you have never been confronted by the task to plan something, try to get into the projects and try to reveal the thoughts that were put into it, e.g. what real life...
Currently the build server is running a 1.8 version of Minecraft, some plugins were a real pain to get working so expect bugs/flaws.

I think I promised it a while ago and now I finally present it: Our first proper public meeting maybe ever or at least since a long time! Other than initially intended it won't be a staff meeting where other Ranks can just come and listen, everyone can contribute to the discussion and topics as well! Although I kind of expect that many of our staff members do participate!
To find an optimal date for the meeting here's a doodle where everyone that is interested in attending should enter their availability! Of course unfortuntale it will be impossible to accomodate everyone. The meeting will be recorded and those that missed out can continue to discuss in the Forums afterwards.

I won't lie that the planning of these year's summer events have been a bit rocky and that things could have been prepared earlier, but last friday we had a staff meeting and decided to not let all of you down and just continue MCME's slumbering days but instead get off our lazy butts and organize some fancy events!
These year's events are brought to you by the Designers, the Foremen as well as the Guides, under the lead of Smaug!
And here's the real surprise: As we are already quite a bit into the summertime the events will start as soon as the upcoming weekend! They will last two weeks and are followed by a return of MCME Survival!...

In other news, while the rest of the world, as well as many of you, has been celebrating the Rio Olympics, many of you have had the great time of participating in the summer event! Breaking News: 360° Videos of MCME!
It has been touched more than once already, but now @Tyranystrasz, who is also taking care of our facebook account, has done a 360° video in 1080p resolution. This is yet only a concept video, other locations may work better, if there's rather a motivation to look around yourself and spy into the side streets of a big city or enjoy the panorama of a majestic piece of terrain....

Welcome, dear reader, to the fourth edition of (hopefully) so far beautiful 2016! Yeah it is your "Vala of buildin'n'stuff" again, or actually for the first time in this position, to get down to write an edition of the Times. Admiring a finished edition of the Times is really a nice thing to do, especially when you wrote it yourself. There's only one problem with that: It's so god dang arduous! Writing every edition is to some extent a pleasure, but to some extent also a burden. And it may happen that writing an edition grows into being more a burden than a pleasure, mostly caused because those stupid days only have 24 hours, and with people bold enough to take over a thing like writing the Times it usually is the case that their schedule already is crammed with other things. And the outcome of an edition that was more a burden than a pleasure to...
Past saturday we had our 22nd staff meeting since the foundation of MCME. You can find a summary of what we talked about below. When making these summaries for the Times I always think about the idea that we could also make a sort of public meeting where everyone can listen in and also voice ideas. Generally most things we talk about in the staff meetings are not sensible and would require being secretive about it, only exception are plannings for events and a few issues related to specific players.
For that reason I made a poll above to see whether the interest would be there to have such a public meeting. If that would be something you'd like to see once we could consider giving this a shot with the next meeting in few months time!
Beside that, have a nice read, there's again a lot that has been happening in the past two weeks!
This week's Times offers once more insight into a lot of new things on the server, but some of them were so admirable that I once more got inspired to take quite a lot of those fancy (and arduous) far-render shots. I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do, and to all who have been working on all these projects: Please do not forget to look back at what you built, and do not forget to be very proud of yourself.

The Great Gondor RaceThe Great Gondor Race will lead through the regions of Gondor where most work has been done during the last year. It will consist of four stages:

Concept Builds are Themed Builds that serve as opportunity to gather ideas for styles currently needed on the main server. They of course can be used for Artist applications.
Concept Builds last for one week.
High Moors of Rivendell
Every swamp, moor, bog and marsh on the server has a very distinct style. In this Concept Build it shall be your task to find a style for the High Moors of Rivendell, that then can later be used in jobs to build the entirety of the moors. The plots you will get are therefore fairly small, as it really is about the style, which can be showed off on rather small scales.
Note that it is only about the moors / bogs, and not about the steep valleys between them that are mentioned below.

Thanks everyone who participated in last week's poll! Definitely something I will do more often if similar questions raise! Of course I will follow your votes; the Beacons will remain lit and I'll add @Wodleth's textures to the Resource Packs. To the additional question by @Ardelenia whether we want to keep the lore-inaccurate Beacons from Halifirien to Edoras: I decided by myself to remove these Beacons in the next few days and replace it with matching stables for the horse messengers at Halifirien, Aldburg and Edoras.
I'd like to emphasize that the question about the Beacons came from @Mandos, and therefore I want to animate everyone of you to question everything and if you feel like something should be changed, message me and tell me about it!
