GeoGuesser Challenge

  • Minecraft Middle Earth is a Minecraft community that recreates the world described by JRR Tolkien and his writings. Everyone can participate in organized events in which we collaborate to create major landmarks, terrain, caves, castles, towns, farms and more.

To get started, visit The New Player Guide
  • This weekend 20-21 April the website will be unavailable for a few hours for a scheduled upgrade and maintenance. Estimated time that the site will be unavailable will be around 3 hours.

  • This community does not generate revenue and relies on its members and financial contributors to keep it running.

For a complete month, we would need around 235 USD for a break-even situation.

So I did this before but I saw it on le interwebs and I gave it another go. I had a lot of fun and I challenge any of you to beat my score >: D

You can use any means necessary to find out where you are, reading text on signs and googleing is aOK. Even with those tools though, I think it'll be hard to get a better score ;)

If you want to make any remarks about locations and how you found them, or didn't find them do so using a spoiler.

You'll all lose though, scrubs.

EDIT apperently brits can't see it becasue it's the international BBC site :p

Well, I like to use everything I have available to find out where it is exactly. It's more fun for me than making a guess, personal preference I suppose ;)

At least tell us what your score was o_O

My best single guess in the past was 1 metre (yes metre it is spelt like that (and yes spelt is spelt like that)) away since I recognised the very pub I was placed outside :D but unfortunately since my rules are stricter than yours (reading signs is fine by my standard rules but no googling) I didn't do too well on some other guesses (on a side note, why do parts of Australia and parts of the US look so bloody similar ).

Well, by just looking at the photo and making an educated guess, I got a score of 6,372. Mad's score was 32,325.

Edit: I didn't realize you could zoom on the mini-map to get more accurate guesses until after I played some random ones a few times. That didn't help my score any...

No, earlier today. My best bet is that the BBC uses an older version or a version of their own. (though this seems implausible)
I got just under 6500 points for each round while being slightly of target, so I guess 6500 is the max. With 5 rounds that makes a total of 32500 points.
