I am very interested in the architecture of orc things, such as the black gate, the eye tower, and the pits of isengard. I also enjoy rural farm areas.

I applied for artist because i am a lover of the Lord of the Rings movies. i was inspired by the minas tirith on this server, and i would love to be able to say that i helped build something as grand as that. i am keen on working on mordor and any small towns that are to be built.(similar to tumladen) I am not exactly a pro builder yet but i joined this server because i want to be one and i am eager to help with almost anything.

a new themed build i finished=

Thank you for your application!

Keep in mind that it may be awhile before you are accepted, we usually like waiting until the applicant has been a part of the server for at least a week or two so that he has a solid experience of the server and we have a better feel for his behavior and activity. With this being said, however, the house shown in the pics above is very nice (especially the interior) for a member so new. Keep up the building and add more pics to your app :)

You should also try your hand at a Themed build, here's a link explaining them, #13/16 - Temple of Morgoth

Hey henry,

Thanks for updating your application. Unfortunately I can't see to many details on your screenshots. Night time screenshots may look cool but at your Artist application you should try to present your builds with all details. Make some overview shots (daytime without shaders) from several sides and also detail shots of the best places. Ofc you can also add a few nighttimes or shaders to show the right atmosphere.

Are the nighttime shots from the Bridge of Tharbad themed build? It seems like a floating bridge which seems quite unrealistic for such a large stream. Also try to use all the area of your plot. You should make roads to both ends of the bridge. Also your build looks quite empty, add a lot of small details.

okay, thanks for the feedback. The reason it is not the actual bridge of tharabad is that the sign only said "bridge" and i did not read the forum page, which i should have done. Also, here are some lit versions of my "endless stair" Themed Build=

here's what you do with images:
  1. upload to imgur
  2. click on uploaded image so that it enlarges
  3. right click --> copy image URL
  4. use the image button here and press Ctrl+V
  5. If it didnt work (sometimes you get a really weird, very long link, try again from step 2)
Now to the Endless Stairs:

First of all I fear you used the wrong RP, would have been the Moria pack ;)

Then, you have used only very few different blocks, especially all the stairs and bridges in the cavern are made out of a single block. Check out how many different blocks such structures are made out of there! If you get artists you'd most likely happen to work in Moria, so we expect you can build in the style of new Moria!

So as you prefer, either try improving on this point in the endless stair build, or tackle a new one!

Very good job on the Chamber of Light house!

I can indeed say that I see quite a bunch of building skills in your submissions! Now I'd like to ask you though to give another Themed Build a try. Because as Artist you would often find yourself in the situation that you have to construct something without intricate instructions, and that's a skill TB's can show off very well.

Thanks for the update! Your builds are fairly beautiful, but I have to say that it's just not yet at Artist level. Please don't get me wrong; I don't want to promote players too early, because then you might be overstrained by some things the Designers ask you to do, which is not good for neither you nor the Designers.

So here's a few more hints I'd like to point out about your last two TB's:

House of Stewards:
  • Generally it is advisable to use a different material for the floors than for the walls to distinguish these two a bit better (Shire houses are rather outdated in that regards with having wooden planks for floor, walls and ceiling sometimes), but especially for your House of Stewards it would have been a lot better, trust me! Cf. the House of Stewards on the main map, there we used a combination of white and black marble.
  • Classic domes, both on MCME and IRL are a lot taller than yours; they are at least shaped like half a sphere, or even a tad taller. As the circumference of your build is rather large, such a dome would be massive. For that reason it might be better, having an intermediate roof to reduce the circumference for the dome. Thats also something you can find in the House of Stewards on the main map.
  • Classic doors are still the best I'd say ;) Gondorians probably could construct something like your piston doors, but I would stick to normal doors with a hinge, in small cases use the actual minecraft doors, in big cases you can build a gate out of blocks (preferrably not made with stone though, as stone is extraordinarily heavy and brittle, wood is the material of choice, except for dwarves maybe).
  • Bring in some more colors, currently all of your house of stewards has the same color, which makes it look boring! For example you could use a grey stone material for the graves, and not white bricks again. And as said above, different floor material.
  • Structuring rooms: I think you realised the problem that completely box-shaped rooms look odd, hence you probably placed the pillars in the corners of the grave rooms. For smaller rooms thats just fine, but for bigger rooms more effort might be made to hide the box shape; the easiest way probably is to add some arches supporting the roof and/or giving some depth to the walls by making some niches (and probably incorporate some other blocks along with it)
  • The pillars supporting the dome might be a bit too fragile, at last they gotta support quite a lot of stone, so consider such things and think about whether this construction seems feasible or not and eventually make it a bit more massive.
  • A problem that we want to fix with new Moria now is that we give every massive construction a purpose. As you might know, old Moria is basically just a bunch of empty halls. It's the same with your dome. You have erected a big and fancy dome, but the area below it seems to be of no particular use or does not seem to have a purpose. Try to find one and incorporate it. Also, some kind of railing along the edge might be appropriate, as I guess also in Gondor there were some silly people who would fall of a building...
  • It is nice that you also worked on the surroundings of your dome! But don't forget to hook up the small gazebo's (or whatever you'd like to call them) with some paths!
  • Make sure you don't make the base of the tree stems too big. A rule of thumb is that the roots are about as big as the canopy, but as most of the roots are underground, the canopy should be clearly bigger than the trunk base.

Golden Perch:
  • The overall look is very nice, and the materials chosen very well!
  • Although not all Shire houses have it currently, a solid foundation is recommendable. These are usually built out of cobblestone and can either be as tall as the entire bottom floor, or can just be about two blocks tall below the bottom floor. A good foundation can avoid damage to the house, when the ground should change e.g. after heavy rain.
  • Only as many doors as are needed. A regular guesthouse should be well served with one door :) What you could do is a backdoor with direct access to the kitchen or storage. And in any case, make a path to your doors!
  • Windows: Yes, pubs might often be moody and not very brightly illuminated. But still, not a single window on the bottom floor is something that should be avoided at all cost.
  • There's a lot of unused space in the main room, you could fit a lot more tables in there! It does not matter a lot if it get's a bit stuffed then, that's normal.
  • That the topmost floor is only accessible from outside, is very uncommon. A spiral staircase should always find a spot in the building. And else, at least build a path to that door.

So, please don't give up on yourself and be sure to realise that I am not not promoting you in order to annoy you, but because I fear you might be a bit overwhelmed if you get the Artist rank too early.
