I've had a good run.

I just wanted to give a little insight into the recent happenings with me, as some (not a lot, but some) of you might be wondering whats going on.

I started way back when. I say that because I can't actually remember, and I don't think there is a record of that anywhere anymore anyways. Sidenote, I just did a triple any! I moved up from Droog to Member to Builder in a matter of weeks. I was here through multiple rank name changes, and leadership changes as well. Ive seen some great people come and go, then come back, then go again.....

I made staff member, Foreman to be exact. I set up jobs for the plebs, voxeled terrain for higher up staff. But at that point in my life things changed IRL that had me making a choice. I was leaving to adopt another child from China, and her heart condition would require most of my time. In light of that, I stepped down to allow others that were more available to the server to be in that role.

As time has gone by, things have settled back down. I've come upon a lot of free time. 2 of my kids go to school all day. I still work one 24 hour day (where I have access to minecraft now) and have a whole 2 days off. So here I am, 2 of every 3 days at home with nothing to do.... for 8 hours... I'll drive myself nuts not doing anything.

All that being said, I applied for a staff position again. I was hopeful and excited to be able to help on one of the largest builds in the projects history, the 2nd Moria! However, after I applied, a few extra shifts came up at work (everyone needs dat money right?). More than a few, I worked 48 hours straight, had 24 off, worked 48 straight again, had 24 off then back to my regular 24 hour shift. So I worked 5 full days in the week after I applied. Needless to say I wasnt around much. I wasnt at my regular assigned station so my laptop was locked away in my locker there. I was dead tired the few days I was home, and when I was online I mostly looked around.

I didn't get promoted again, I guess those few little events were enough to make it seem that I wasn't necessarily interested in the position. Or that I wasn't up to it. I'm disappointed that it turned out this way, but I'm still excited the direction the project is moving. I don't know who is going to get promoted, but someone is, and I wish them the best. Hopefully they're a good addition to staff and can help keep up the momentum the server has had the last few months.

As for me, I feel like I'm being a little dramatic. It's an odd feeling for me, as I'm mostly a stoic, emotionless person, unless something involves my family. But maybe that's just it. I feel like this is a part of my now, that MCME is my family. Nobody usually sticks with something 3-4 years if it doesn't matter to them. However, I feel saddened by this recent stuff, and am going to take a break. I might pop back on here and there, but I will in no way be contributing for a while. I've been invited to do something else, and I'm going to, since I've got all this time and all...

So this is goodbye. For now? I can't really say. I wish everyone the best.

/me bows one last time to his old friends. Keep calm and carry on good fellows!

We'll hopefully see you back soon. Sometimes you need the rest and wait until you feel motivated again. Good luck in your personal life. Don't stress yourself out and be happy about what you got! =)

An unexpected reason for departure, but a very great one regardless. As easy as it is to be attached to something that requires so much team effort and investment of time, we have to look back at the wider picture. Four years for many young Minecrafters can seem a century long. For me it's a fraction of a fraction of my entire life. I've only in the past year came to this resolute idea of the passage of time. That's only 5% of the average lifespan more or less. It's another experience, though, in a wide expanse of hundreds of experiences big or small. Good luck in all your future endeavours. Maybe if you come back in two years Moria 2.0 will be complete :D

Well mister fuss, keep in mind promotions are mostly made as they are needed. (When people that hold the rank leave, right before starting some new projects etc.) At that point Credoo and our lovely designers usually get together and discuss who might fit the rank. They take lots of things in account during these discussions and at this point I'm sure we all know you're a fireman that does occasionally spend a lot of time on his job.

Now what credoo's and our designers opinions are on promoting you (or other people) I don't know. So I'm not telling you you have a chance, and neither am I telling you you don't. But based on the previous paragraph keep this in mind:
  • Promotions aren't made a certain amount of time after you apply. It could be a month, it could be two; it's all about when more manpower is needed.
  • If you spend two months on the server being active and productive and spend one week away no one is going to hold that one week against you.
edit: sorry for the late reply, but I turned off tavern talk in my unread forum posts.

Since it wasn't me who brought this thread back from the dead can we all just admit that "Good bye" threads are an awful idea because hardly anyone ever goes through with it.... Sorry to be a bitch but I've seen so many now and I would guess around 80% of those people have come back on and sometimes even come back and been active (MUTE, fire(both), phe...ect.)
