Over the years Minecraft has evolved and now good fighting skills are not as important anymore to survive as they once were. Now it's about the numerous features of Minecraft and the knowledge about how to use them that will grant you the best chances for success.

Although we won't have a Nether or an End dimension, you will have access to every Survival-relevant feature of Minecraft. This guide serves as guideline to the most important aspects of Minecraft as well as the custom features of this MCME Survival.

Battle for Last Team Standing

Further specifications:
  • No natural health regeneration - health can only be regained with golden apples and potions.
  • No respawns - once you're dead, you're out. You can spectate the game in gamemode 3 after that.
  • People not participating in the battle will receive Spectator gamemode.
  • Mob/Animal spawning will be turned off. Day/Night cycle remains.
  • You can bring whatever you can fit into your inventory to the battle, but no inventory extensions like Ender Chests or Mules/Donkeys are allowed. Creative tactics like bringing resources for a wither, or TNT are allowed.
  • Every team will be teleported to a corner of the battleground. Teams have to sign up in this thread. Solo players can participate too of course.
  • Alliances between teams can be messaged me via personal message. If two or more allied teams remain at the end, still only one of those teams can win.
  • Animals:
    - Every player can get 1 horse teleported with him. Donkeys/Mules with chests are excluded from that (no matter whether chest is full or not)
    - Wolves: Maximum 6 per player.
  • Where the battle will take place will not be announced until the start of the event to avoid teams hiding additional supplies at the location.
  • A Worldborder around the battle location prevents teams of leaving the arena. If no battle progress occurs, the Worldborder will begin to shrink, forcing teams to move towards the middle of the map.
  • Mods: Minimaps are permitted. X-Ray and fly/speed mods are strictly forbidden. People being caught will be disqualified.


Starting shenanigans:
After the closing ceremony (in which I will do EVERYTHING to prevent mass killing / mass suicide / mass tomato battles) everyone will be teleported to Bag End in Adventure mode. During about one more minute everyone will have Resistance Level 100 which makes it impossible to kill others. So you have to wait a minute at Bag End to enter the mosh pit. Alternatively you of course can just tactically run away...

After a while (it may be 5 minutes, it may be 5 months, or in other words: "soon") the spawn point will be moved from Bag End to Minas Tirith. This will be announced with some fancy messages and some scary and/or deafening sounds, maybe.


Gathering Resources

The environment you will have to survive in is fairly unusual compared to a vanilla Minecraft map. All the resources can either be gained from the map, through mobs or through crafting. For the few exceptions to this we grant you two custom features:
  1. The Ore Plugin: Whenever you mine a block of smooth stone you may get what you would get by mining ores instead. Concretely beside cobblestone you may receive:
    • Coal
    • Iron ore
    • Gold Ore
    • Lapislazuli
    • Redstone dust
    • Diamonds
  2. Custom crafting recipes: To ensure the availability of almost everything, there's crafting recipes for the following resources:
    • Blaze Rod
    • Ghast Tear
    • Dragon's Breath
    • Slimeball
      (see below for the recipes)

Enchanting


Enchanting equips Weapons (Sword, Bow), Armor and Tools (Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, Shears) with additional features, or enhances the basic features. Some enchantments can have higher enchantment levels which intensify the effect of the enchantment. An item can bear multiple enchantments at once, however a few are mutually exlusive.

The following enchantments are available:
(max. enchantment level in brackets, as roman numerals)
  • For Swords:
    • Sharpness (V): Increases damage dealt against every enemy.
    • Smite (V): Sharply increases damage dealt against undead mobs (e.g. skeletons and zombies)
    • Bane of Arthropods (V): Sharply increases damage dealt against Spiders and Silverfish)
      Sharpness, Smite and Bane of Arthropods are mutually exclusive!
    • Knockback (II): Increases the Knockback the enemy experiences when being hit.
    • Fire Aspect (II): Sets the enemy on fire for some time.
    • Looting (III): Causes mobs to drop more and rarer loot. Does not affect drops of a killed player.
  • For Bows:
    • Power (V): Increases damage dealt.
    • Punch (II): Knocks the enemy back further.
    • Flame (I): Sets target on fire for some time.
    • Infinity (I): Bow does not use up arrows. However at least one arrow has to be in the inventory. Special arrows (Tipped, Spectral) are consumed normally.
  • For Armor:
    • Protection (IV): Reduces damage from any source.
    • Fire Protection (IV): Sharply reduces damage from lava and fire.
    • Blast Protection (IV): Sharply reduces damage from explosions.
    • Projectile Protection (IV): Sharply reduces damage from projectiles (e.g. arrows)
      Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection and Projectile Protection are mutually exlusive on a single piece of armor!
    • Thorns (III): Enemies touching a player with Thorns armor take damage.
    • Respiration (III) - Helmet only: Increases underwater breathing time, underwater visibility and reduces damage taken from suffocation.
    • Aqua Affinity (I) - Helmet only: Allows breaking blocks underwater at normal speed.
    • Depth Strider (III) - Boots only: Increases underwater walking speed.
    • Frost Walker (II) - Freezes water surface temporarily, allowing walking on water.
      Depth Strider and Frost Walker are mutually exclusive!
  • For Tools (Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel)
    • Efficiency (V): Increases mining speed.
    • Silk Touch (I): Causes blocks that usually drop something else than themselves to drop themselves upon breaking. E.g. you get diamond ore instead of diamonds when breaking diamond ore.
    • Fortune (III): Increases number of dropped items upon breaking a block, and increases chance of a block dropping a rare item, e.g. flint from gravel or apples from leaves.
  • For Fishing Rods:
    • Luck of the Sea (III): Chances to get a treasure from fishing are increased and chances to get junk are decreased.
    • Lure (III): Stuff bites Fishing Rod more frequently.
  • For everything:
    • Unbreaking (III): Every time an item is used (armor: damage taken) there is a chance that durability is not reduced.
    • Mending (I): The item's durability can be restored using XP.
Basic requirements for enchanting:
  • Enchanting Table (Crafted from Obsidian, Diamonds and a book)
  • Lapislazuli
  • Experience Levels (for short XP)
  • Something to enchant (Weapons, Armor, Tools, Books)
Additional requirements for higher enchantments:
  • Bookshelves (Crafted from Books and Wood)
  • Anvil (Crafted from Iron Ingots and Iron Blocks)

Enchanting with the Enchanting Table:

When using the Enchanting Table you can choose from 3 enchantment options. The topmost option always requires one piece of lapislazuli, the second always two and the third always three pieces. Similarily the topmost option always costs one XP level, the second two and the third three. However a higher amount of XP may be required to unlock the enchantment option. The enchantments are picked randomly, however the higher the XP requirement to unlock the option is, the better the enchantments yielded may be. One of the enchantments is revealed by hovering over the option, more enchantments may be added to that, but don't have to.

To increase the level of the available options, bookshelves need to be placed around the Enchanting Table, with one block between the bookshelves and the table. 15 bookshelves are the maximum and will always provide a level 30 option in the third slot of the Enchanting Table.

XP can be obtained by killing mobs and players, mining ores, smelting things in furnaces, fishing and breeding animals.

Getting enchantments through fishing:

The second available option to gain enchantments is through fishing. There is a rare chance that instead of a fish a treasure is catched, which rarely may be an enchanted book, bow or fishing rod, which will always have enchantments as good as a Level 30 enchantment on the Enchantment Table would yield. Additionally Fishing is the only way to get the two treasure enchantments Frost Walker and Mending which can never be obtained with an Enchantment Table.

Combining enchantments and repairing:

The anvil can be used to:
  • Combine enchantments from two items of the same kind (e.g. two swords) on one sword. Especially the anvil can be used to gain high-level enchantments: For example combining two Power IV bows will yield one Power V bow.
  • Add enchantments from an enchanted book onto an enchantable item. Note that enchantments only can go onto certain items. If a book has multiple enchantments on it of which only one can be applied to the item, all other enchantments ones will be lost in the process.
  • Repairing an item by putting the enchanted damaged item and an undamaged unenchanted item into the two slots.
  • Naming any item.
Actions on the anvil cost XP. The XP cost depends on the rarity of the enchantments processed, and costs increase every time the anvil is used on a certain item. All actions that would cost more than 40 XP levels can not be performed.

Brewing

Brewing Potions is easily the most underrated gaming aspect of Minecraft! But there is a huge variety of very powerful potions that can give you all kinds of advances in your survival game!

Basic requirements for brewing:
  • Brewing Stand
  • Glass bottles (can be filled with water at a water source block or cauldron)
  • Cauldron (optional, to fill water bottles)
  • Blaze Powder (available with a custom crafting recipe, see below!)
Potion ingredients:
(not all are required for a certain potion)
  • Nether Wart
  • Glowstone Dust
  • Redstone Dust
  • Fermented Spider Eye
  • Gunpoweder
  • Dragon's Breath (available with a custom crafting recipe, see below!)
  • Magma Cream
  • Sugar
  • Glistering Melon
  • Spider Eye
  • Ghast Tear (available with a custom crafting recipe, see below!)
  • Blaze Powder (available with a custom crafting recipe, see below!)
  • Golden Carrot
  • Pufferfish

Brewing Basic Potions

The Brewing Stand is powered by Blaze Powder which has to be placed in the top left slot. Brewing works by brewing the ingredient in the top slot into the bottles on the bottom slots. It does not make a difference whether you use only one or more slots on the bottom, but using all slots is recommended as it uses the ingredients more efficiently.

In most cases a potion requires multiple ingredients which have to be added in a specific order. You start a brewing process by placing water bottles into the lower slots and (for almost every potion) put one Nether Wart into the top slot. After that follows the ingredient that will determine which potion you'll get. After that you can add modifier ingredients which either lengthen or strengthen the potion effect.

Splash Potions

Basic potions can only be used by drinking them. However there is the possibility to turn them into throwable Splash Potions which will explode upon impact. The potion effect affects everyone close to where the bottle exploded, that can be used to both subject an enemy to a potion effect, subject oneself with a potion effect (useful as it's faster than drinking a basic potion), or share the potion between you and your team mates.

Splash Potions can be made by brewing a piece of Gunpowder into the basic potion.


Lingering Potions

The next step up from Splash Potions are Lingering Potions, whose effect, other than Splash Potions does not disappear almost instantly from where it landed. This means the potion effect remains on the ground for a while and everyone inside the potion area is constantly subjected to the potion effect.

Lingering Potions can be made by brewing a bottle of Dragon's Breath into Splash Potions.


Tipped Arrows

In a final step, a potion effect can be added to arrows. If someone gets hit by a tipped arrow he gets subjected by it's potion effect.

To craft Tipped Arrows, surround a Lingering Potion with 8 arrows on a Crafting Bench.

  1. Craft the Logs into Wooden Planks, craft a Crafting Table and the remaining Logs into Sticks.
  2. Craft two Furnaces and smelt the Sand to Glass using one piece of Coal as fuel.
  3. Craft Glass Bottles with the Glass.
  4. Craft a cauldron and a bucket using the iron. Fill the bucket with water and then pour the water into the cauldron.
  5. Craft the Gold Ingots to Gold Nuggets.
  6. Craft six Blaze Rods using the two Furnaces, the Coal, Gold Nuggets and Sticks.
  7. Craft a Brewing Stand.
  8. Craft the remaining Blaze Rods into Blaze Powder.
  9. Craft the Sugar Cane into Sugar.
  10. Craft a Fermented Spider Eye.
  11. Craft four Eyes of Ender using Ender Pearls and Blaze Powder.
  12. Craft four Ghast Tears using Quartz and Gold Nuggets.
  13. Craft one Dragon's Breath.
  14. Craft eight Arrows using the Feathers, Sticks and Flint.
  15. Fill one Water Bottle with water using the Cauldron.
  16. Power the Cauldron by placing the remaining Blaze Powder into the top left slot.
  17. Put the Water Bottle into the lower middle slot.

  18. Initiate the first brewing step by putting the Nether Wart into the top slot. Leave the bottle at its place after the brewing process.

How long will we have the survival server for? And maybe it would be good to have the ip under the title or somewhere.
 
Yes Cactus, although not in large amounts, appear all over the map, we use them as meat in kitchens and similar. So if you get yourself one it may be wise to plant it down and grow it before you turn it into dye :P
 
So the Survival server has been going for quite a while now - and as you all may be aware of, it won't be up forever! Now I've been thinking about how to conclude this survival with something a bit more fun than just shutting it down at some point, and thus I wanna present an idea here which is completely open for changes yet, so please voice your opinions and ideas on this!

So again, only an idea here, voice you'rs too so we can assemble an event that's pleasing for everyone ;)
 
Could you somehow rebuild the selected city so that it would be all ready for a fight, without all the holes and stuff everywhere, or is that not possible?

Like having q op certain people so they in turn can put all other designers and artists into gm 1, and have a rebuild day for the city cause most of them have holes and craters everywhere.

It would be much easier to just put a second copy of the map on the server then paste the city in, or save it as a schematic and paste that.

No, we won't do anything like that. Not worth the effort for a potentially quite short battle. It's a closing event, not starting something entirely new.
