The Council of Elrond was a council held on 25 October of T.A. 3018 in Rivendell. The main purpose of the council was to discuss what should be done with the One Ring, which was brought there by the Ring-bearer Frodo Baggins. They eventually decided it should be destroyed, but unlike in the movie, the Fellowship itself was formed slightly later. Rivendell, or the Last Homely House, was the home the Elves in the east of Eriador and was located in a hidden valley that Tolkien based on Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland.
