Hello Gamers,

It seems I do not have permissions to post in Community News and Announcements so I am posting here

Welcome to the Goblin Town build contest. Since beginning the project I wanted to run a build contest, and with the anniversary nearly here it seems like a great time for it. This contest will be on the Great Goblin’s platform, the centerpiece of the main chamber of Goblin Town. The contest will take place in the Mordor resource pack and hopefully will be made easier by recent rp additions.

How should I start?

First of all, you start by deciding whether you want to do this solo or with a group. If you choose the latter, you look for a group you can work with. After this, you or someone from your group signs up by replying to this forum post with the name of your group and the names of your group members. Unfortunately, due to plug-in limitations, the maximum number of members in a group is 8. Though, I do highly doubt you will need 8 people to complete the platform.

After you’ve signed up (solo or as a group), I will get your plot ready in Plotworld at /warp GTBuildContest. It may be that I would need you to be online alongside me to assign the plot to you. But you’ll be notified if this is the case. You can build here every day if you want to.

If you were to switch worlds and do not know how to get back here. Once you switch from any other world back to plotworld, it shows you a light blue message in chat. Whenever you click on this message, it gives you a teleport link in the chat towards your plot.

The Build Contest will begin on Friday 9/26 and will last two weeks.

What is expected of the build to look like?

This will be the biggest platform in goblin town so there is not a direct comparison you can copy which is already built. That being said it should follow basic laws of physics and match the block pallet of the rest of goblin town. Take a look at /warp Goblin Town to see how the style works before beginning.

I would prefer if the blockmix of the floor were not entirely the modelled catwalk but instead were a mix of plank thin slabs as well as catwalks. If you need a comprehensive guide to how we build catwalks you can always check out our guide for small walkways at /warp catwalkguide.

The layout and style of the platforms should be as movie accurate as possible. You can choose not to do this but this will count against your team winning this contest. Goblin Town is directly inspired in every way by the movie. The cave layout has been scrupulously planned according to obscure movie frames as has housing clusters. Therefore the main platform needs to be as accurate as possible to the movie. I have included the pertinent movie angles of the main platform here below:

Special Notes:
Disclaimer:* In the event you win, myself and other goblin town staff may advise some further changes to your plot before it is pasted into mainworld.

Periodically throughout the contest, I may visit your plot and leave some useful comment blocks with recommendations on how to improve your plot, also definitely feel free to reach out to me or other Goblin Town project staff with questions about style or planning.

I hope this is enough information to get everyone started. If there are any questions, you are free to contact me or Larry881a.
