Introduction

This post is a continuation of Mershy’s previous post.

Hello, with Udun recently pasted over to mainworld and work beginning in earnest on it, it is also time for a new shiny project post. This work is the accumulation of the concepts which have been built up over the last few years in plotworld put together by my boy DoctorDaom. The original project post no longer reflects the situation on the ground or what we are planning to do so hopefully this post will be more accurate in that regard. Firstly here are the recent developments on the project:

Daom’s Project Report:

What is up, my fellow Mordor enjoyers. Once again, the dark lord has returned to his domain to make things right. A lot has happened these past few weeks, concepts have been chiselled out, ideas shared and headcanons set up. The Udun leadership has changed too, even though Mordor is still under the control of grand leader Credoo, may his reign be long and fruitful, Rudolphius has decided to step down from Udun Lead to concentrate on other things, still probably chiming in for stuff whenever he finds the time to do so. So let me say a quick thanks to Rudo under whom we developed the current Hut and Tent design and who also caused Luke to start his defining Campsite Concept, which is the main defining concept we work of from. The new Udun Leadership consists of Wyat and Me for now, Swe is probably planned to come in later once Linhir is finished (expected 2027). Wyats workforce from goblin town is already working hard at tunnels, tents, huts and wooden structures. Second in command Alfonios is grinding away at smaller and bigger cave systems, always in the need for busy hands and commoners interested in becoming artists.

I’m currently looking at the paths and scaling situation. Terrain was a big issue, due to the flatter slopes of the shadow mountains and limiting capacities caused by this, but do not worry, Swe came in and solved that problem for me in a heartbeat, which enables me to tweak terrain to make room for better paths and places for little campsites. On the topic of campsites, Luke and I are working on integrating them better into the terrain, reducing the sizes and make them feel more realistic, this may take a while, but I think we are approaching a nice compromise between scale and quality. Udun itself wont be filled to the brim with campsites like we see in the movies, more sporadically placed campsites which serve different purposes, like mining related campsites to support the ongoing excavation efforts in Udun to house the thousands of orcs and evil creatures in the wars to come. Besides that there are some indigenous Camps of orcs living longer in Udun, which are mostly situated near the slopes and cliffs often going into smaller or bigger dwelling-systems.

Project Sections

So in Udun there will be a number of camps at the feet of the mountains, some being more permanent in nature and some arranged for the purposes of newly levied armies. On the east side the red indicates pit mining areas. The pit mines will be where coal is extracted, whereas mines in the mountains themselves are where iron is found. One pit mine is already completed next to the large camp. We have inherited a finished black gate and we also are looking towards concepts for the carach angren or Isenmouth wall on the south-east edge of the project. Within Udun itself will be an undefined number of fortresses, primarily repurposed Gondorian forts. Calendih has already made one which is pasted in on the blue dot on the map above. The map does not include many set in stone locations because Daom and I are handling planning in a more dynamic way. Instead of promising specific builds in certain places, we are adopting the west gate approach and vibebuilding. This allows us versatility to integrate builds in the terrain as the terrain changes and adjust our plans as we see how the build comes together. We already have quite a team put together and I am excited to see what we can do with it.

Background Lore

For the moment it withdrew them, and brought up new forces, massing them about Cirith Gorgor for an avenging stroke.

(In Gorgoroth)
Here in the northward regions were the mines and forges, and the musterings of long-planned war; and here the Dark Power, moving its armies like pieces on the board, was gathering them together. Its first moves, the first feelers of its strength, had been checked upon its western line, southward and northward.

Ahead the water-course came to an end in broken steps of rock; for out from the main range there sprang a high barren spur, thrusting eastward like a wall. To meet it there stretched out from the grey and misty northern range of Ered Lithui a long jutting arm; and between the ends there was a narrow gap: Carach Angren, the Isenmouthe, beyond which lay the deep dale of Udûn.

In that dale behind the Morannon were the tunnels and deep armouries that the servants of Mordor had made for the defence of the Black Gate of their land; and there now their Lord was gathering in haste great forces to meet the onslaught of the Captains of the West. Upon the out-thrust spurs forts and towers were built, and watch-fires burned; and all across the gap an earth-wall had been raised, and a deep trench delved that could be crossed only by a single bridge.

All your folk should have been inside Udûn before yesterday evening.

They were out on the plain now and drawing near the entrance to Udûn. Some way in front of it, before the gate at the bridge-end, the road from the west converged with others coming from the south, and from Barad-dûr.
