Minecraft 1.21.5 to 26.2

For: everyone, especially builders
← Back to the overview

MCME ran Minecraft 1.21.4 until now, so we're catching up on six game drops and five hotfixes in one go. Along the way Mojang switched to year-based version numbers, which is why the drop after 1.21.11 is called 26.1. The first number is the year (26 for 2026), the second counts the drops in that year, and a third number marks a hotfix, so 26.1.2 is the second hotfix of 26.1. Minecraft 26.3 came out on 15/09/2026 and is now the launcher's latest release, but MCME runs 26.2, so nothing from 26.3 is in this list (What's new for you explains how to join). For each drop you'll find the highlights first and everything else in a spoiler.

1.21.5 Spring to Life

Released 25/03/2025
  • New plants for the ground layer: leaf litter, wildflowers, bushes, firefly bushes, cactus flowers, and short and tall dry grass.
  • Every leaves block now sheds falling-leaf particles, including all the trees already built on MCME.
  • Pigs, cows and chickens come in warm and cold variants depending on the biome, and those chickens lay blue and brown eggs. Sheep colors now depend on the biome too.
  • Fallen trees (logs lying on the forest floor) appear in newly generated terrain.
  • More ambient sound: sand and dead bushes add desert sounds, firefly bushes buzz at night, and every wolf gets one of seven voices.
  • Beacon beams now reach as far as your render distance and up to 2048 blocks high.
Blocks and items
  • Leaf litter: a flat layer of dead leaves, 1 to 4 pieces per block, in four rotations. Its color follows the biome through a new "dry foliage" tint (brown in most biomes). Smelt any leaves block to get it. It sits on any block with a full, solid top, but not on fences.
  • Wildflowers: a flower carpet like pink petals, 1 to 4 flowers per block in four rotations. Bone meal spreads them.
  • Bush: a small leafy shrub tinted with the biome's grass color. Bone meal grows another bush next to it.
  • Firefly bush: gives off a little light (level 2). In the dark, glowing fireflies drift around it, and at night it buzzes.
  • Cactus flower: a small pink flower that grows on top of cacti (a cactus stops growing once it has one). You can also place it on farmland and on top of other solid blocks.
  • Short and tall dry grass: straw-colored grass that ignores the biome tint. Both are only one block tall, and they sit on sand, terracotta and dirt.
  • Bushes, dry grass and leaf litter are replaceable like short grass: placing a block on them overwrites them. Bushes and dry grass only drop with shears or Silk Touch.
  • Iron blocks, iron bars, iron doors, iron trapdoors and heavy weighted pressure plates have their own metallic sounds.
  • Blue and brown eggs from cold and warm chickens, which hatch that variant.
  • The lodestone recipe uses an iron ingot instead of a netherite ingot.
  • Dead bushes can be placed on farmland.
Mobs
  • Warm and cold farm animals: pigs, cows and chickens get a cold look in snowy and cold biomes and a warm look in deserts, savannas, jungles and the Nether. Elsewhere they have the standard, temperate look. A baby bred by a player takes after one of its parents.
  • Sheep: white is still the most common color in temperate biomes, but black is the most common in cold biomes and brown in warm ones. The undercoat now takes the dye color. Sheep also eat ferns and dry grass.
  • Cows and mooshrooms have a new model with a snout.
  • Every wolf randomly gets one of seven voices: Classic, Big, Cute, Puglin, Angry, Grumpy or Sad.
  • Creakings can be named with a name tag.
  • Camels spawn naturally in deserts, and farm animals can spawn in badlands.
  • The wandering trader now also buys basic supplies, and sells logs among other things.
Gameplay and interface
  • All spawn eggs were redrawn, with one design per mob.
  • Tooltips list every projectile loaded in a crossbow, and container items (such as a chest picked with Ctrl + Pick Block) show their first four items.
  • Dropped items no longer sink into the floor.
  • Gliding into a ladder, vine or scaffolding ends the glide so you can hold on.
  • Some desert, badlands and pale garden block sounds moved to the Ambient/Environment volume slider, and breaking grass is quieter.
  • The narrator volume follows the Voice slider.
World and ambience
  • Fallen oak, birch, spruce and jungle trees, some with mushrooms or vines on them.
  • The new plants generate naturally: leaf litter in forests, wildflowers in birch forests and meadows, firefly bushes by water in swamps and near rivers, and dry grass and cactus flowers in deserts and badlands.
  • The pale garden covers more ground, and woodland mansions can now generate in it.
  • Large areas of sand play ambient sounds, and dead bushes on sand or terracotta join in. 1.21.6 retuned this (see below).
  • World generation changes only affect newly generated terrain. MCME's built map stays as it is.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • Leaf litter and bushes for forest floors and undergrowth in Mirkwood, Fangorn and the Old Forest, and for Shire hedgerows, without using full leaf blocks.
  • Dry grass for the steppes of Rohan and Dunland, the Brown Lands and the edges of Mordor. Firefly bushes for marshes such as Midgewater and the Dead Marshes.
  • Every existing MCME forest now sheds leaves, with no rebuilding needed.

1.21.6 Chase the Skies

Released 17/06/2025, followed by the hotfixes 1.21.7 and 1.21.8
  • The happy ghast: a friendly flying mob that carries up to four players. You grow one from a dried ghast block kept in water, and steer it with a harness.
  • The locator bar shows which direction other players are, in the spot where the XP bar sits.
  • Clouds now stretch to the horizon (with a new Cloud Distance setting), and reworked fog gives distant scenery a soft haze that thickens in rain.
  • Leads got an overhaul: tie mobs to each other or to boats, cut leads with shears, and ropes are drawn twice as thick. Saddles can now be crafted.
  • Five new music tracks by Amos Roddy and the music disc "Tears". Music now keeps playing on the pause menu.
  • 1.21.7 added the painting "Dennis" and the music disc "Lava Chicken". Both hotfixes mostly fixed graphics bugs.
Blocks and items
  • Dried ghast: a small, shriveled ghast block. Craft it from 8 ghast tears around 1 soul sand, or find it next to nether fossils in soul sand valleys. In water it slowly plumps up in three visible stages over about 20 minutes, then becomes a baby ghast (a ghastling). Out of water it dries out again.
  • Harness in 16 colors: 3 leather over glass, wool and glass. It takes the color of the wool, can be re-dyed, and only fits the happy ghast.
  • Saddles are craftable from 3 leather and 1 iron ingot. Chests that used to hold saddles now give leather instead.
  • Leads now take 5 string (no slime ball) and you get 2.
  • Shears remove saddles, horse armor, harnesses and llama carpets from mobs, and cut leads.
  • CHANGED Leads are drawn twice as thick, so rope decorations made with leads look heavier. They also stretch further before they snap (12 blocks instead of 10).
  • Music disc "Tears" by Amos Roddy: dropped by a ghast killed by a fireball that a player hit back.
  • Paintings and item frames survive TNT that explodes underwater.
Mobs
  • Happy ghast: a large (4×4×4), peaceful flying mob. It never spawns on its own and can't be bred. Snowballs tempt it. With a harness on, the first rider steers from the front and up to three more sit on the sides. When players stand on top of it, it stops and turns to face the nearest compass direction.
  • Ghastling: the baby. It follows nearby players and grows up in about 20 minutes, sooner if you feed it snowballs.
  • The regular ghast has a new, more detailed texture that matches the happy ghast.
  • Mobs can be leashed to each other and to boats.
  • Horses, donkeys and mules eat carrots.
Gameplay and interface
  • Locator bar: colored markers for other players in the direction you're facing, with an arrow when they are above or below you. Markers shrink with distance. You can hide from it by sneaking, wearing a mob head or carved pumpkin, or being invisible. Servers can switch it off.
  • New sound options: Music Frequency (Default, Frequent or Constant), Show Music Toast (shows the name of the song that's playing) and a separate UI volume slider. "Friendly Creatures" and "Hostile Creatures" are now "Friendly Mobs" and "Hostile Mobs".
  • New video option: Cloud Distance.
  • A Quick Actions key (G by default) and pause-menu entries that servers can fill with their own screens. On plain vanilla they do nothing.
  • New advancements: "Stay Hydrated!" (put a dried ghast in water) and "Heart Transplanter" (place a creaking heart correctly between pale oak logs).
World and ambience
  • Clouds reach all the way to the horizon, whatever your render distance, and have a new pattern (the wiki spotted a creeper face hidden in it).
  • Fog adds haze to distant scenery, gets heavier in rain, and now also covers your hand and held item.
  • New music by Amos Roddy: "Below and Above", "Broken Clocks", "Fireflies", "Lilypad" and "O's Piano". They play across much of the Overworld, in Creative and on the title screen.
  • Desert sounds retuned: sand and red sand whisper even indoors (no open sky needed), terracotta no longer does, and the desert wind now comes from dry grass standing on sand or terracotta.
  • Dried ghasts generate next to nether fossils in soul sand valleys.
1.21.7 and 1.21.8 (hotfixes)
  • 1.21.7 added "Dennis", a 3×3 painting of a wolf by Sarah Boeving (a nod to A Minecraft Movie), and the music disc "Lava Chicken" by Hyper Potions, dropped when you defeat a chicken jockey.
  • Graphics fixes: text on glowing signs could be invisible on some graphics cards, text displays flickered up close, and repeatedly reloading large resource packs could corrupt textures or run out of memory. 1.21.8 fixed freezes and corruption on Intel integrated graphics.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • Clouds to the horizon and the new fog give big vistas real depth: think Misty Mountains skylines and panoramas of Minas Tirith.
  • Check existing rope work such as ship rigging, bridges and market stalls, because leads are now twice as thick. Leashing mobs to each other or to boats opens up moored boats and tethered caravans.
  • The game now ships a font with Tengwar letters. It's switched off by default, but a resource pack could turn it on, which would make Elvish script possible in chat and on signs.

1.21.9 The Copper Age

Released 30/09/2025, followed by the hotfix 1.21.10
  • Copper decoration: copper torches and lanterns with green flames, plus copper bars and copper chains. The bars, chains and lanterns age from bright copper to green like copper blocks do, and can be waxed. Lightning rods now age too.
  • Shelves in 12 wood types that display up to three stacks of items.
  • The copper golem carries items from copper chests into wooden chests. Left to age completely, it turns into a copper golem statue with four poses.
  • Copper tools and armor. The tools hit like stone ones but mine faster and last longer.
  • The F3 debug screen was reworked. It shows less by default, and F3+F6 lets you choose what to show, even with F3 closed.
Blocks and items
  • Copper torch (light level 14) and copper lantern (light level 15): the flame is green, but the light itself is the same as a normal torch or lantern. The torch doesn't age; the lantern does.
  • Copper bars and copper chains work like iron bars and the chain, in four aging stages (copper, exposed, weathered, oxidized), each also in a waxed version.
  • Copper chest: a normal chest in the same aging stages. Two copper chests side by side join into a large chest even when their aging differs.
  • Copper golem statue: four poses (standing, sitting, running and star) in every aging stage. Right-click to change the pose; it keeps its pose when mined.
  • Shelf in 12 woods, made from 6 matching stripped logs. Each of its three slots holds one stack, shown in front like an item frame, but the stack size isn't shown. Powered with redstone, up to three shelves side by side join up and can swap items with your hotbar.
  • Lightning rods now age and can be waxed, like other copper blocks.
  • CHANGED The chain is now called Iron Chain, and hanging signs can only be crafted with iron chains.
  • Copper tools (sword, axe, pickaxe, shovel and hoe), copper armor, copper nuggets, and copper horse armor, which can't be crafted but turns up in the same chests as iron horse armor.
  • The copper trapdoor recipe changed: 4 copper ingots now make 1 trapdoor. The old recipe shape makes copper bars.
  • Mob heads keep their custom name when placed and mined again.
  • Dye icons were redrawn so the colors are easier to tell apart, including for color-blind players.
Mobs
  • Copper golem: built by placing a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on a block of copper. The copper block turns into a copper chest and the golem appears. It takes items out of copper chests and puts them into wooden chests that are empty or already hold that item. It ages like copper and, fully aged and unwaxed, becomes a statue. An axe on an unaged, unwaxed statue brings the golem back to life.
  • Watch out: the golem pattern also works sideways and upside down, so placing a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern against a copper block can create a golem and swap the copper block for a chest.
  • Mannequins: player-shaped figures that can wear a skin and gear and hold one of five poses (standing, crouching, swimming, gliding or sleeping). They have no AI and can only be summoned with commands.
  • Iron golems sometimes give a poppy to a copper golem.
  • Zombies, skeletons and other mobs can spawn wearing copper armor.
Gameplay and interface
  • F3 debug screen: F3+F6 opens Debug Options, where each line can be off, shown with F3, or always on screen. Chunk borders and hitboxes are switched here too, and your setup is remembered. If something you rely on (such as the block you're looking at) is missing, switch it on there.
  • Chat drafts: an unsent message is kept if chat closes on you, for example when you die. You can also type in chat while standing in a Nether portal.
  • Switching from Spectator to Creative close to the ground now stops you flying.
  • Controls: attack and use can be set to Toggle instead of Hold, several key binds can share one key, and there are new "Invert Mouse X" and "Sprint Window" options.
  • Renamed options: "Show Subtitles" is now "Closed Captions", and "Hide Lightning Flashes" is now "Hide Sky Flashes".
  • Menus: the cursor changes shape over buttons and links, text can be selected by dragging, the resource pack and data pack screens have search boxes, and the world-loading screen has a progress bar.
  • Smoother performance where there are many mobs, and particles you can't see are no longer drawn. The game now needs OpenGL 3.3.
World and ambience
  • No new biomes or structures.
  • Copper horse armor turns up in chests, and mobs can spawn in copper armor.
  • The End now flashes purple every so often, with a distant rumble. "Hide Sky Flashes" turns the light effect off.
  • A new title-screen panorama shows a village with copper golems.
1.21.10 (hotfix)
  • A short list of fixes. For builders: maps in item frames can now be placed on walls that touch a carpeted floor. Also fixed: mobs in cobwebs slipping through pistons, and bubble columns launching mobs high into the air.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • Green-flame copper torches and lanterns for Minas Morgul, the Morgul Vale and the Dead Marshes. Aged lanterns suit the ruins of Osgiliath.
  • Copper bars and chains in four aging stages for portcullises, the cells of Cirith Ungol, window grilles and chandeliers: bright copper for Dwarven work, green for old Númenórean ruins.
  • Shelves for the libraries of Rivendell and Minas Tirith, Bag End pantries and market stalls in Bree or Dale.

1.21.11 Mounts of Mayhem

Released 09/12/2025, the last version with the old numbering
  • Spears in seven materials: a quick jab, plus a charge attack whose damage depends on your speed, so it hits hardest from horseback. New enchantment: Lunge.
  • The nautilus, a tameable underwater mount. While you ride it, your air doesn't run out.
  • Zombie horses now spawn in the dark with spear-carrying zombie riders, and can be tamed and ridden. Also new: netherite horse armor.
  • New desert dangers: the camel husk (an undead camel with two riders) and the parched, a skeleton that shoots arrows of Weakness.
  • Horses, donkeys, mules and camels no longer sink in water while you ride them.
  • A graphics settings overhaul: presets, texture filtering, less shimmer on distant blocks, and chunks that fade in.
Blocks and items
  • No new blocks in this drop.
  • Spears in wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond and netherite. Craft one with the material in the top-right corner and two sticks running diagonally down to the bottom-left; netherite comes from upgrading a diamond spear. The jab is quick, can hit several targets and can't break blocks. Holding use starts a charge: the faster you close in, the harder it hits. Spears reach 4.5 blocks but can't hit anything closer than 2.
  • Lunge (levels I to III): a spear enchantment that throws you forward when you jab. It costs hunger.
  • Nautilus armor in copper, iron, gold, diamond and netherite. It can't be crafted: look in buried treasure, ocean ruins and shipwrecks (netherite comes from smithing).
  • Netherite horse armor: upgrade diamond horse armor at the smithing table. It fits horses and zombie horses.
  • Copper chests got redrawn textures.
  • With See-Through Leaves off, the gaps in leaves are now dark green instead of black.
  • Leather horse armor has a new texture, and zombie horses are darker.
  • Spawn eggs are grouped by theme in the Creative inventory.
  • Fixes for builders: boats no longer break paintings and item frames, each shelf wood has its own color on maps, and glass no longer looks less see-through from far away.
Mobs
  • Nautilus: lives in every ocean. Tame it with pufferfish, then give it a saddle and nautilus armor. Ridden, it's fast and can dash forward with the jump key.
  • Zombie nautilus: carries a drowned with a trident. Once its rider is gone it can be tamed and ridden too. Warm oceans have a coral variant. It burns in sunlight unless it wears armor.
  • Camel husk: appears in dark desert areas carrying a husk with a spear and a parched. Once its riders are gone, it rides like a normal camel.
  • Parched: a desert skeleton that doesn't burn in daylight and fires arrows of Weakness.
  • Zombie horse: spawns in the dark in plains and savannas with a spear-wielding zombie on its back. Tame it like a normal horse. It burns in sunlight unless it wears horse armor.
  • Tamed horses no longer walk into cactus or sweet berry bushes.
  • Zombies and husks can carry iron spears, and piglins golden ones.
  • Parrots can imitate the new mobs, and the new advancement "Mob Kabob" asks you to hit 5 mobs with one spear charge.
Gameplay and interface
  • Graphics presets: Fast, Fancy and Fabulous! are now presets that set many options at once, plus Custom. If you're upgrading, you start on Custom, so your settings are kept.
  • Options that used to hang on the graphics mode are now separate: See-Through Leaves, Show Vignette, Weather Effect Radius (how far away rain and snow are drawn) and Improved Transparency.
  • New Texture Filtering option (None, RGSS or Anisotropic) and a Chunk Fade Time slider.
  • Vines, rails and plants look cleaner in the distance, because every block now uses mipmaps. Mojang expects higher frame rates for most players.
  • Clouds move the same way for everyone on a server.
  • Rain and thunder tint sunrises and sunsets.
  • Debug keys and the hide-GUI key (F1) can be rebound, and "Show Music Toast" became "Music Toast", with a pause-menu-only choice.
  • A new splash text on the title screen: "One does not simply walk to the Far Lands".
World and ambience
  • No new biomes or structures.
  • New spawns: zombie horsemen in plains and savannas, camel husks and parched in deserts, and nautiluses and zombie nautiluses in the oceans.
  • Spears and nautilus armor turn up in chests: bastions, buried treasure, End cities, ocean ruins, shipwrecks and village weaponsmiths.
  • Bats no longer spawn more often around Halloween.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • Spears for the Rohirrim, Gondor's tower guards and the Galadhrim. Show them off on armor stands, mannequins, shelves and in item frames.
  • Ford the Bruinen, the Isen or the Anduin on horseback without your horse sinking. Tamed zombie horses and netherite horse armor suit dark riders and armored cavalry.
  • Big vistas like the Misty Mountains, the Pelennor and the Anduin valley shimmer less in the distance, which helps screenshots and flyovers.

26.1 Tiny Takeover

Released 24/03/2026, followed by the hotfixes 26.1.1 and 26.1.2. The first release with the new numbers.
  • A baby mob makeover: new models and textures for almost every baby mob, and new baby sounds for wolves, cats, pigs, horses and chickens.
  • The golden dandelion, a new flower. Use it on a baby animal to stop it growing up, and again to let it grow.
  • Name tags can be crafted from paper and a metal nugget.
  • Cats, pigs, cows and chickens now have different "voices", picked at random.
  • Lighting was rewritten: darkness fades more smoothly, and Night Vision works differently.
  • Minecraft now runs on Java 25. The official launcher takes care of that for you.
Blocks and items
  • Golden dandelion: craft it from a dandelion surrounded by 8 gold nuggets, or buy it from a wandering trader. It plants like other small flowers, fits in a flower pot and makes yellow dye. On a baby mob it pauses growing up (green particles drift down); use it again to restart (particles drift up). It doesn't work on undead babies or baby villagers.
  • Name tag: now crafted from 1 paper and 1 iron, gold or copper nugget. Wandering traders sell them; master librarians no longer do, and they're gone from ancient city and woodland mansion chests.
  • A note block on copper plays a new trumpet sound, which changes as the copper ages.
  • Water in cauldrons is now see-through.
  • Tripwire looks more solid and is easier to see.
  • The stonecutter turns stone into cobblestone (and its slabs, stairs and walls), and deepslate straight into its cobbled, polished, brick and tile versions.
  • Weathered and oxidized copper bulbs no longer look too dark with Smooth Lighting.
Mobs
  • New-look babies: almost every baby mob has a new model and texture, from lambs, piglets and foals to baby zombies and villagers. Many babies got bigger hitboxes, and baby villagers now look different per biome.
  • Rabbits, young and old, have a new model and new animations.
  • Baby wolves no longer show armor, and baby pigs and camels no longer show saddles. Small armor stands show adult armor scaled down.
  • New sounds: baby wolves, cats, pigs, horses and chickens have their own, and adults get random variants (a royal cat, mini and big pigs, a moody cow, a picky chicken).
  • Leashed decorative mobs stay put: hoglins, zoglins, dolphins, squids and glow squids no longer despawn while leashed, and neither do untamed cats tied to a fence.
  • Fixes: zombie reinforcements no longer go after Creative players, wolves no longer try to attack on Peaceful, and dolphins stop drowning themselves.
Gameplay and interface
  • Night Vision now simply adds light instead of brightening colors, so pitch-black areas no longer look brighter than lit ones. If you build in the dark with Night Vision, expect a slightly different picture.
  • The chat screen always opens, even if your settings restrict chat, and it tells you what is restricted. Handy if you "can't chat".
  • New video option: Exclusive Fullscreen (off by default).
  • The pause menu has a World Options screen with difficulty and a searchable Game Rules editor, mostly useful in singleplayer.
  • Typing with an input method (IME) now works in-game on Windows and macOS.
  • The official launcher gives the game 4 GB of memory by default, up from 2 GB.
  • Old singleplayer worlds show an "Upgrade and Play" button.
World and ambience
  • No new biomes or structures.
  • The lighting rewrite smooths the step from light level 1 to 0, and fixes odd colors where low sky light and block light meet.
  • Shipwrecks no longer split into mismatched halves at chunk borders.
26.1.1 and 26.1.2 (hotfixes)
  • Small fixes for reporting chat messages and for the Report Player screen's tooltips, plus a Spectator mode bug.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • The golden dandelion is a golden flower for Shire gardens, and a fair stand-in for elanor on Cerin Amroth.
  • A golden dandelion keeps the lambs, foals and piglets in farm and stable scenes young for good.
  • Baby animals and rabbits look different now, so check the decorative mobs in existing farms and stables.

26.2 Chaos Cubed

Released 16/06/2026. This is the version MCME runs now; there were no 26.2 hotfixes.
  • Two new stone sets: yellow sulfur and red cinnabar, each with polished, brick and chiseled versions, stairs, slabs and walls. With potent sulfur and sulfur spikes, that's 28 new blocks.
  • Sulfur Caves: a new underground biome with bubbling pools, geysers and sulfur springs that break through to the surface.
  • The sulfur cube, a new mob. Feed it a block and it turns into a physics toy that bounces, slides or sticks, depending on the block.
  • Five new music tracks by fingerspit and a new music disc, "Bounce".
  • A Friends List in the game (key O), with friend requests and online status.
  • An experimental Vulkan renderer (OpenGL is still the default), less flickering where faces overlap, and a fix for the big frame-rate drop that came with 26.1.
Blocks and items
  • Sulfur and cinnabar (13 blocks each): the base block, polished, bricks and chiseled, plus stairs, slabs and walls for the base, polished and brick versions. Mine them with any pickaxe. Each set has its own sounds. Crafting works like other stone sets (2×2 for polished and for bricks, two slabs for chiseled), and the stonecutter makes every variant from the base block.
  • Potent sulfur (craft it from 9 sulfur): under water it sends up bubbles, and a gas cloud that causes nausea forms on the surface. On a magma block under 1 to 4 blocks of water it becomes a geyser that erupts every so often and throws mobs and players upward; on lava it erupts nonstop.
  • Sulfur spike: works like pointed dripstone. Hang it from a ceiling or stand it on a floor, stack spikes into longer columns, and sneak to stop facing tips from merging. Falling stalactites hurt. Wandering traders sell them.
  • Bucket of sulfur cube: scoop up a large sulfur cube with an empty bucket.
  • Music disc "Bounce" by fingerspit, found in chest minecarts in mineshafts inside Sulfur Caves.
  • CHANGED Beds and signs are now drawn as regular block models. Resource packs that retexture them must be converted, or those blocks show the vanilla textures. Beds are also a little bouncier.
  • Bone meal works again on sweet berry bushes and dry grass with a block above them.
Mobs
  • Sulfur cube: spawns only in Sulfur Caves, in groups of 2 to 4, and doesn't attack. Use a block on it and it absorbs the block: its AI switches off and it becomes something you can punch and push around. Shears take the block back out.
  • What it does depends on the block: wood makes it bouncy, ice makes it slide, wool makes it light and floaty, metal blocks make it slow and flat, a honeycomb block makes it sticky, TNT makes it explosive, and a magma block makes it hot enough to hurt.
  • Kill a large cube and it splits into two small ones. Feed small cubes slime balls to grow them.
  • Hoglins now count as hostile and no longer spawn on Peaceful; ocelots and piglins now do.
  • Fixes: dolphins stop drowning, wardens no longer roar at ghasts, and campfires no longer slow bees down.
Gameplay and interface
  • Friends List: open it with the Friends button on the title screen or pause menu, or press O. It has Friends and Pending tabs and shows whether friends are online, and whether they're in a world, on a Realm or on a server. You opt in the first time the button appears, and Online Options has settings for who can see you and send you requests.
  • If your Xbox profile's chat setting is "Friends Only", you now only see chat from friends. If chat on MCME looks empty, check that setting first.
  • New video option "Graphics API": Default (currently OpenGL), Prefer Vulkan (Experimental) or Prefer OpenGL. It needs a restart, and if the game crashes on startup it falls back by itself.
  • Less Z-fighting (flickering where two faces overlap), including on the sides of waterlogged blocks seen from far away.
  • Fixed: the severe frame-rate drops that started in 26.1, and transparent blocks flickering while you move.
  • When there are too many particles, the game now skips new ones instead of deleting ones already on screen.
  • New advancement "Uh Oh": have a sulfur cube absorb TNT. Touchscreen Mode was removed.
World and ambience
  • Sulfur Caves: bands of sulfur and cinnabar, pools of acid-green water with potent sulfur at the bottom, clusters of sulfur spikes and lava lakes, all under a yellow-green fog. The biome sits at the same depth as lush and dripstone caves and prefers flat land, such as near swamps and deserts. Sulfur cubes, cave spiders and the usual monsters live there, and it has its own music.
  • Sulfur springs: pools on the surface above Sulfur Caves, in four sizes. Because they contain magma, they make natural geysers.
  • New music by fingerspit: "Shores", "Memories", "Nightly", "Home" and "Ebb". They play in many biomes, on the title screen and in Creative.
  • Like all world generation changes, these only appear in newly generated terrain. MCME's hand-built map won't have Sulfur Caves unless someone builds or generates them.
Useful for Middle-earth:
  • Cinnabar is a full red stone palette for Harad, Umbar and Rhûn, red desert cliffs and Mordor accents.
  • Sulfur for yellow crusts around the vents of Gorgoroth and Orodruin, and sulfur spikes for volcanic caves, the deeps of Moria and the Sammath Naur.
  • Potent sulfur for foul, bubbling water in the Dead Marshes or on volcanic plains. Mind the nausea gas and the geysers.
