To get a link to the world map type in game chat "/helper map"
resource packs change the look of the blocks in game. Without our resource packs the world will look very weird indeed. Best is to use server resource packs. You can enable these in the Multiplayer server list. At the Minecraft start screen click at "Multiplayer" then klick at the MCME server once (do not join) and click "Edit". Now set "Server Resource Packs" to "enabled".
The server will now send you the correct resource packs for each region.
