What makes a great Ranger according to you?
In my experience, the Ranger rank differs in function in the minds of a variety of people. For some, it's a platform through which it's possible to make members of the community feel welcome, and to influence and direct them towards the continuation of an amazingly long-lived project. To others, Ranger is a means of educating the community not only on Tolkien's work, but on expected behavior and routine. While most would say that these functions are not only expected, but required, it has been my experience that some more comfortably fulfill certain aspects of the rank than others. To this end, the Rangers function brilliantly as a whole ( a team), supporting and alternating between the needs of the individual, and the greater community.
To actually answer the above question, a Ranger is in my mind a necessary support role. They assist the functioning of the server on many levels while still providing a welcoming attitude towards those newest additions to the project. A great Ranger is not only an individual who can recognize when it's necessary to support and assist others, but further understands when they should look to the assistance of others in order to fulfill the needs of the project.
