Being involved in the community (commoner), show off what you can do with themed builds (good to aim for artist), get involved in jobs etc. If stuff like giving tours, helping people and showing people around the server is more your thing, Guide might be more your thing.

What are best ways to be able to rank up or be able to start help building.
For a more in-depth explanation of all of the ranks on our server here's a longer though still fairly brief description:

As an Adventurer, which is the starting rank, you can partake in jobs or plotbuilds run by Foremen, partake in our weekly theme build in order to hone your building skills or join in tours or minigames run by Guides to have some fun. Other than that you are free to explore and experience our server as you wish by walking, flying or warping around.

The only rank you can "rank up" to in the traditional sense is the Commoner rank. Adventurers who partakes in jobs, joins in minigames, does theme builds or generally just spread good cheer and show an interest in the server will get votes from other members ranked Artist/Guide or higher and once you've got 10 votes (which is indicated by your xp-bar filling up) you automatically rank up to Commoner which means you're considered a trusted member of the community and gets you access to our freebuild world as well as being entrusted with greater tasks during jobs.

The rest of the ranks on the server are more like duties or responsibilities rather than just ranks and has to be applied for via an application process on these forums.

Artists are responsible for building stuff in our buildworld. They build everything from houses, streets and trees to entire towns, castles and forests.

Guides are responsible for all of the social aspects of the community, doing things like welcoming and helping new players, doing tours, hosting minigames and organising events.

Foremen are responsible for running and overseeing jobs and plots for Adventurers and Commoners to do, which might be things like digging roads, planting vegetation or ruining halls.

Designers are a staff rank responsible for planning and organising larger building projects such as leading Moria or planning out the revamp of Anorien.

Moderators (which was recently changed from a rank to a special badge so that they can perform other duties as well) are responsible for making sure that the Terms of Service and Rules are followed as well as excert disciplinary actions uppon those who breaks them.

Then there's the Head and Assistant ranks which are also staff ranks. Each Head rank are responsible for a certain aspect of the community as a whole. The Head Builder(s) are in charge of planning the direction of our building projects and texture development. The Head Guide organises the Guides and plans major events. The Head Moderator oversees the Moderators and makes sure the ToS and Rules are up to date. The Head Developer leads the Development Team who develops our server's plugins.
The Assistant ranks are there to assist the Head ranks by helping them with things like documentation or organisation of documents.

And finally there is the rank of Eru Iluvatar which is held by our server's owner and founder q220. He is responsible for maintaining the server and these forums financially, represents MCME in any official or legal matters, and holds the outmost authority on the server in the rare cases when that is needed.

Most of the ranks on the sever can be applied for here: Rank and Badge Applications
and anyone can apply for Artist or Guide immediately after joining the server. Just make sure to read the application format post for the rank you're thinking of applying for before writing your application though.

Artists have to have a very high building skill as well as understand the building style of the server whilst Guides needs to be good with people in social interactions and preferably be well learned in the lore of Tolkien's legendarium as well. After getting their applications approved Artists and Guides has to pass a trial build or trial tour respectively before they get the rank.

Foremen and Designers have a much greater responsibility and therefore it is a requirement to have the rank of Artist (or Guide, though you'll need the skills of an Artist either way) in order to apply for these ranks. Beyond getting their application approved Foremen and Designers have to pass a trial job to get their rank. Designers must also show that they know how to use World Edit and Voxelsniper effectively and responsibly.

I'm not actually sure what the requirements for Moderator are now that they've changed it to a badge but I know that you must be a very well trusted member of the community in order to be eligible for the badge.

In order to get a Head or Assistant rank you have to be hand picked by the current Heads of the server based on your skills and this usually only happens once the previous holder of a Head or Assistant rank steps down from their rank. There's technically no requirements for these ranks but the Heads only pick people who they know will be able to handle the responsibilities and duties of the vacant rank.

There's also some "invisible" ranks in the community in the sense that they aren't necessarily visible on the server but aren't any less important for that. They are the Development Team, the Texturing Team and the Media Team and in order to join them all you need to do is talk to them and show your interest and/or skill in working with what they're doing. The Media Team is responsible for things like making screenshots and videos of the server for our official media outlets like our YouTube channel and our Facebook page as well as writing our server newspaper The MCME Times. The Texturing team creates textures and models for our custom resourcepacks and the Development Team develops and maintains our server plugins as I've already explained.

Now this may seem like a rigid hierarchy in theory but in practice it really isn't. We're all just friends performing different but equally important tasks on the server.
