Just was wondering today what people on the server want for the New Moria, whenever we get around to putting it there. I have seen people on both sides of the spectrum, so please take the poll, and {optional} write a quick comment explaining why you chose your option. Personally, I've always been for a total revamp, but choose whatever you like.

This topic was already multiple times heavily discussed. Pretty much all agree on that we redo Moria pretty completely and also wont take many old things over (and if, then heavily revamped as the build quality of old Moria was pretty bad).
The point we are not yet completely sure (but its very well possible) is that we build Moria on a separate world or somewhere off the actual location to have the full 255 block height for an even bigger and more complex moria. We looked closely into fitting Moria under the current misty mts, but it doesnt seem to be possible at all.

I understand you guys have come to a decision, but the whole point of this post is to see what people WANT in their opinion for Moria.

an idea if we build moria on another world. is have the entrance on the current world, but have a pressure plate, that warps you to the actual world it is on. Then another one near the exit to re warp you back when you reach the east gate. only problem with this, is making the transition, as smooth as possible, But i think the 1.8 update is supposed to deal with teleporting lag.

this way people can still walk from bag end to mordor, via frodos route

The thing is, Moria was begun, according to the timeline, on December 18, 2010, which was about two months after the server opened. At that time, it was the most prized build on the server. In fact, I saw an MCME Trailer from early 2011 (somewhere around there) and it was really just a Moria showcase:p To add to the age of it, Moria has never been redone. Most other locations on the server have been redone at least one or two times, but none for Moria. Therefore, I would say that there is no question that Moria should be almost completely redone.

Personally, I think it would be cool to modify the render mechanics for that area with a plugin. We could build Moria on another map, then when you approach the Moria entrance on the main map, then it would load the chunks from the Moria map as you entered Moria. If there is other data the server needs to process before the teleport to the new map, maybe it could do that as you are walking up to the Moria gate. As you leave, it could do the same thing. If this is possible, it would make a seamless teleport from one map to another. I have no idea if this could work, but if it can, it'd be very cool.;)

100% Seamless teleporting is no problem in vanilla minecraft, and we'll probs even have a plugin for that as we have so good devs now :)

Tbh i wouldn't copy over a thing. Some parts aren't terrible, but it could easily be done 10x better, and be redone with new blocks. And unless i'm mistaken, the Eriador pack has lots of free block spaces that could be re textured for Dwarven needs. As for location, because the map is on a lower scale its quite hard to fit the number of, and the size of, halls and other works inside the misty mountains (even longitudinally) that most people want. So I would also agree with the separate map Moria with a teleportation system between.

y would we need another Narnia? Is the one in the wardrobe in Bagend not enough?
Yeah, we went way to overboard with easter eggs. I mean, the Westeros warp in Mirkwood? This has gone too far!

PS: Above is a Joke. {just had to make sure everyone knew, in case a droog believed it!}

I like the idea of a seamless teleportation to another map where moria could be bigger.

EDIT:

In my personal opinion, the bigger the better! (obviously building it 100% to scale is probably impossible)
I've always enjoyed exploring moria so, the bigger and more complex it is, the more players can get out of it!

So you might think we haven't thought about al that but we have and come to the conclusion that moria 100% isn't possible, old moria under the new map mountains isn't either and that moria will require more planning than the move of the jews from egypt to jerusalem. So what we will do instead is work on what we have now and on stuff that's further along the path. This is not official, but very probable.

There is no such thing as a seemless teleportation to a new world. It's like entering the nether (loading screen)
Another idea would be to place Moria in the very southwest corner of the main map (into the Great Sea). It then would be in the same world and to find it there by accident you'd have to cross thousands of blocks of water.

Moria is generally not done in my opinion. Old tables, chairs, furniture, magazines with weapons, are missing. General design is of the tunnels is not very good - tunnels should be bigger so we can add some better decoration to them. I think the best way would be building moria as a new, colonized place and then ruining it.

The Western part is deserted for more one thousand years so most of furnitures/cranes/scaffholding would have been eaten by time. Except if dwarves use stone for everything but that's technically not possible (just try to make a stone crane). Moria would be kind of empty indeed, but this would be realistic. And don't forget Moria got raided by Goblins.
For the Eastern part, as Balin founded a colony there, just a few years before the Fellowship walked through Moria I guess some wooden stuff could still be there.
